CroatiaFest 2011 - October 23, 2011

It was great to see everyone this past weekend for my return to CroatiaFest 2011 as a featured artist and the debut of my book.  Congrats to everyone at CroatiaFest for a great celebration!  My heartfelt THANKS to those who came by the exhibit with your kind words, support, and wonderful conversations!

Cafe Paloma Exhibit, August 4th, 2005

This was the beautiful summer evening in Pioneer Square where my exhibit "A Tribute To Croatia" debuted on the Seattle Art Walk. As I think back, it was probably the hottest day that summer! It was also a day where friends and family came to enjoy and celebrate some Mediterranean cuisine, vino, and culture. The cultural fabric started with my photos of Croatia, but also included the various Balkan languages being spoken in our midst, in addition to a very special group of gentlemen who performed Dalmatian Klapa for our listening pleasure. Dave and the Dalmatians! These gentlemen truly made the evening special for me, my family, and guests. They created an authentic Dalmatian party...with the gift of song! As their soothing voices carried thru the cafe, they lifted many of us to the vineyards, olive groves, and boardwalks of the Adriatic.

I've included a portion of my narrative from the exhibit here:

"My name is Sam Evich and this is a tribute to my parents and their homeland of Croatia. I traveled to Croatia for the first time in the summer of 2003, with my two younger sisters and my mother. These photos were taken during those three unforgettable weeks. The region possessed a warmth and beauty thru its people, cuisine, architecture, and natural setting. My parents and cultural background are the biggest contribution to my success as a person and citizen. I want to thank them for all their love, encouragement, and support over the years. This exhibit of photography was especially dedicated to my aunt, Marija Ivcevic, who passed away in winter '05 from pancreatic cancer. I donated half of the sales, in her name, to cancer research. Finally, many thanks to Sedat and Cafe Paloma for giving me this amazing opportunity to share my photos. I hope you enjoy them!" -Sam
